For my 40th birthday my parents gave me a very generous cheque to celebrate the milestone. I was sorely tempted to buy the Regiment bag from Victoria Beckham… but I’m nothing if not practical so decided to invest in my garden. Besides I am somewhat obsessed with getting the garden sorted. We’ve been in the house 3 years now and not a month has gone by without my husband or I saying “I can’t wait until we sort out the end of the garden”.
So Project Garden 2018 continues… my much anticipated cherry blossom tree arrived from the nursery only for the men to dig down to plant it and announce that they couldn’t proceed due to uncovering a brick wall, patio slabs and rubble amongst other things.
CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?! So it had to go and live with somebody else and I was left heartbroken.
Our proposed plan of having the shed on the left and a beautiful pink blossom tree in lawn on the right has now been scuppered! I realise that we could hire (yet another!) skip and pay some guys to come along to excavate the site but I really don’t want to spend the money (it’s been expensive enough) and I’m slightly terrified of what we might find. It’d just be my luck to find human remains or burst through a pipe! Don’t get me wrong I’d have loved to have had one but I really don’t want to have one at any cost.
It now looks like we’ll keep the new shed on the left and continue the gravel path round to the right. Not sure what we’ll stick there, a bench maybe? I’m not prepared to risk turfing it now as I know there’s a brick wall/concrete under the soil so when it rains it won’t drain well. There’s no way we could have known this before as it was all covered with rotted decking and the old shed. Although, perhaps the fact that the previous owners didn’t have any lawn, plants or trees down there should have been an indicator! 🤣
I definitely think it would have been a lot less stressful to just buy the bag.
